The reconciliation is quite simply holding all of calvinist theology as applicable only to the Elect while simultaneously holding all of arminian theology as applicable only to the Non-Elect. Individual Election and Predestination is true for the Elect – while there is no predestined condemnation of the non-elect, completely attributed to their own self-determinism. In summary, Single Predestination is the only consistent interpretation possible from Scriptures.
The remainder of the series focuses primarily on showing the calvinists how they are wrong about the ‘double’ of predestination – that there is no predestined reprobation along with predestined election. Given that the Arminians’ doctrinal system arose primarily trying to counter this doctrine of predestined condemnation, the idea is that when the calvinists are persuaded to be reconciled to Single Predestination, the Arminians could embrace the same.
This is what it would look like in a snapshot for the Calvinist, the Arminian and the Reconciled View :
The Reader’s Interpretation
What you, the reader, must consider is that all these differences came about because of two systems of theology that were simply contradictory and incompatible with each other – so much so, that it was an all or nothing approach with regards to which system you’d pick to believe while throwing out the other.
But now, you must be willing to apply the appropriate rules over the corresponding group of application. They are still contradictory with each other – but only when applied to the same set of people. They could coexist with each other separately when applied independently to the spiritual Jew and Gentile.
So, when considering the Elect, you wouldn’t assume their freewill has any causative effect, that they are indeed individually predestined to salvation from before the foundation of the world and that Christ died on the cross only for them.
And when considering the Non-Elect, you wouldn’t assume they were predestined to condemnation – in fact, there is no predestination concerning them. What’s been purposed is only Christ and His death and His resurrection and His final salvation for all who’d believe in Him corporately. Their self-deterministic choices are factored in their salvation/condemnation as they choose, and they can be saved through faith alone by grace alone.
Let’s begin with a set of principles of interpretation that are objective and that could be used further to show this reconciliation is not simply a hack to work around a centuries-old division.
